WALKING THE CAMINO ACROSS SPAIN
The Camino Frances, or the French Way, is the most celebrated of several ancient pilgrimage routes to the tomb of Saint James, apostle to Jesus, in Santiago, in northwestern Spain. Camino Frances pilgrims may begin in Paris, or in various places in France, but most start at one of the two towns on either side of the border between France and Spain. From Roncesvalles in Spain, it is 475 miles to Santiago, divided by one popular guidebook into 32 stages, each averaging about 15 miles per day. Thousands walk it every year, enlivening a tradition well over 1000 years old.
